My Favourite Powder Foundation

Foundation is just what the name implies: the base (or foundation) for the rest of your makeup application.  It is available in liquid and powder and can range from sheer to full coverage.  Some leave a dewey look to your skin while others mattify.  The one you choose will depend on your skin's needs and your personal preference.

While I enjoy liquid foundations and have a few that I rotate between, I have recently been loving the heck out of my Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation.  It is a velvety powder foundation that applies easily and quickly.

Pan!
The packaging includes a small sponge which can be used to essentially wipe the foundation on with.  I played around with the sponge for a while put found it too small to work with and I felt like I was wasting product as so much seems to cling to the sponge.  Instead, I prefer to use a flat top brush like my Morphe G6 Flat Buffer brush.  I will run it over the foundation and then apply it to my face in a circular motion and end with downward strokes so that my peach fuzzies all lie down nice and flat.

I am lucky enough not to have problem skin: my skin tone is fairly even, I do not suffer from acne, and the redness that I do get from time to time is typically only around my nose.  I do not gravitate towards full coverage foundations as I don't require that amount of coverage.  The nice thing about the Urban Decay foundation is that it is buildable and the amount of coverage is controlled by how much you apply.  It starts with a sheer layer and can be built up from there.
After applying a sheer layer minor imperfections are covered.  I didn't apply any concealer or do any colour correcting before taking the "After" photo.  The effect of the foundation is subtle but that's why I like it; I can build it up if I want/need to.

I have normal to dry skin and this foundation does not dry me out further.  I always apply a primer or, failing that, a moisturizer to my face before I apply this product so that may help to prevent any additional dryness throughout the day.  After I have applied all of my makeup, I spray a few spritzes of a setting spray which helps to reduce any powdery appearance.

I have experienced good longevity with this foundation.  My Maybelline Fit Me concealer tends to "separate" by the end of the work day meaning it starts to appear patchy in areas, usually around my eyebrows and chin.  This one doesn't do that; it wears evenly throughout the day.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation retails for $44 at Sephora and Shoppers Drug Mart.
